It's a big week for comps!

The National Story Writing Competition is open for business although you've only got until the 22nd of August... so I'd get writing. It's one of the few comps in Australia to offer good prize money and you have a reasonable chance of winning. Here are the details:

  • Entry is for Australian residents
  • Short stories should be original, previously unpublished work
  • Stories should not exceed 3,000 words
  • Adult 1st Prize $1500
  • Teenage 1st Prize $350 13-18 years
  • Junior 1st Prize $250 9-12 years
  • Local Award $500 For residents in Knox, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges

If you're into script writing check out the INSCRIPTION which offers $200 000 in prize money to up and coming script writers. That's big money... so I guess it's worth a look!

These guys have a wonderful website with many different workshops on offer both in person and online. Their entry criteria goes like this:

*~* Writers must be living in Australia
*~* Writers may enter more than one category and/or scripts in more than one form
*~* There is no restriction on style or genre, but the piece must run a minimum of 40 minutes.
*~* Identity of the writer(s) should be removed from the script
*~* The work should not have been professionally produced.

Each category of Prize receives the following:

*~* $5 000 cash
*~* Extensive script development workshops with leading international practitioners
*~* A presentation
*~* Production of scripts
